4 hurt as explosion hits La Union congressman's convoy

Four people were hurt after the convoy of La Union Rep. Eufranio "Franny" Eriguel was hit by a bomb explosion in San Fernando City, Saturday morning.

Chief Inspector Artemio Infante of the La Union Police Provincial Office said Eriguel's convoy was passing Barangay Santa Barbara when it was hit by the explosion at around 9 a.m.

Initial reports said two of the four injured victims were in serious conditions. They have been rushed to a hospital in San Fernando City.

Eriguel escaped the attack unscathed.

The four victims were on board a Toyota Grandia van, which served as a back up vehicle of the congressman. The congressman was on board a Toyota Land Cruiser.

The camp of the congressman said that the explosion was caused by a bomb rigged to a motorcycle.

Infante told GMA News Online that the van was "totally wrecked."

Police have yet to determine the motive and people behind the attack.
