Infant, cop killed in NPA ambush in Bukidnon —police


A four-month-old child and a police officer were killed while six, including three civilians, were wounded when New People’s Army (NPA) rebels ambushed police personnel in Bukidnon late Thursday afternoon.

Superintendent Lemuel Gonda, Region 10 spokesperson, identified the fatalities as Machorao Malysha and Senior Police Officer 3 Arnel Carillo.

Among those wounded were Ali Citi, 53, who was shot on her left breast; Ali Aminsalam, 37, who was shot on her right arm; and Alexander Maniscan.

Also injured were Inspector Joven Acuesta, chief of Bombaran Municipal Police Station in Lanao del Sur; SPO1 Pacifico  Cabudoy; and PO1 Nathaniel Ibal.

Initial report showed around 5:30 p.m., November 9, the communist rebels fired at a marked police vehicle traversing Km. 28, Barangay Tikalaan, Talakag, Bukidnon.

A report from Captain Norma Tagros of Army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade, 4th Infantry Division stated around 30 NPA members conducted the ambush.

The civilians were heading back to their residence in Brgy. Kili-Kili in Wao, Lanao del Sur, after attending to some personal errands in Cagayan de Oro City on board a gray Toyota Fortuner (UNI 707), while the police officers were on their way back to the Bumbaran Municipal Police Station.

All the wounded victims were brought to hospitals in Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro City.

Responding troops from the 1st Special Forces Battalion recovered an improvised explosive device (IED/landmine), 200 meters wire, detonating cords, empty shells of AK-47 rifle ammunition, and subversive documents at the area where the incident happened. —KBK, GMA News
