Holiday exodus leads to Christmas carmageddon in Baguio

Tourists are flocking to the country's summer capital even in the Christmas cold as seen in the traffic congestion encountered by motorists going up to Baguio and in the city itself over the holidays.

According to Marisol Abdurahman's report on "24 Oras", data from the traffic management unit of the Baguio City Police Office indicated that there were three times more cars in the city after Christmas.

"Trumiple na 'yung bilang ng sasakyan ngayon... ramdam na ramdam na rin kasi natin ngayon," Chief Inspector Oliver Panabang said.

The report said motorists would encounter the heavy traffic starting from the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX). Authorities have opened booths in the "shoulder lane" to somehow ease the traffic.

Traffic is lighter when entering Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), the report added.

However, traffic starts to build again upon reaching Sison, Pangasinan and all the way to Baguio City. —Anna Felicia Bajo/NB, GMA News
