7 Pinoy tourists killed as van rams tree in Cebu

Seven Filipino immigrants from the United States died in a road accident in Alegria, Cebu on Saturday morning.

A Super Radyo dzBB report by Vic Serna said the victims died after their tourist van crashed into a tree along the street in Barangay Legaspi.

Identities of the fatalities were withheld by authorities because their relatives have yet to be informed of the tragedy.

The report said a total of 11 tourists, all Filipino immigrants in the US, were on board the tourist van. Four people, including the driver identified as Gilbert dela Cruz, were injured.

The report added that Dela Cruz told investigators that he fell asleep while driving the van.

The van was coming from Oslob town, where the victims went whale shark watching, and was on its way to Kawasan Falls in Badian town when the accident happened.

Charges are being prepared against the van driver. —ALG, GMA News
