DOH: Dengue kills 9, infects 973 others in Bicol in 1st half of 2018

Nine residents have died, while almost 1,000 have been infected by dengue in the Bicol Region, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

A report on GMA News TV Live on Saturday said that based on records from the DOH regional office in Bicol, six of the nine were residents from Camarines Sur, two from Albay and one from Catanduanes.

Meanwhile, 973 have been infected with the disease in the region from January 1 up to June 16, 2018, which is five percent higher compared to the same period last year.

The DOH is reminding the public to remain cautious and to habitually clean their surroundings amid the rainy season.

It is said that dengue-carrying mosquitoes commonly lay their eggs in stagnant water. — Jamil Santos/MDM, GMA News
