Cop hurt as 2 explosions rock Zamboanga City

(Updated 9:37 p.m.) Two explosions rocked an establishment in Zamboanga City on Sunday evening, leaving at least one person injured.

According to GMA News stringer Jayvee Francisco, the explosions happened at the Deluxe Massage Parlor on Tomas Claudio Street.

Members of the PNP Bomb Squad were immediately sent to the area after the first explosion. But a police officer — identified as PO2 Franklin Inet — was hurt in a second explosion while he  was inspecting baggage abandoned on the ground floor of the establishment.

It cannot be immediately verified if the bomb-sniffing dog that Inet was with was also hurt in the incident.

Meanwhile, the city government has urged residents to "stay calm but vigilant and report suspicious persons or bags and other items to 062-117 or 166."

It also assured the public that participants of the Boy Scout of the Philippines jamboree 20 kilometers away were "safe and sound." — Joel Locsin/JDS, GMA News
