Team Algieri already planning victory party ahead of Pacquiao fight

MACAU — Tim Lane envisions the scenario that will happen as soon as his ward, Chris Algieri, is done fighting Manny Pacquiao.

"Michel Buffer will climb the ring and say: And the new welterweight champion..." Lane said at the top of his voice, much to the surprise of a pack of journalists who attended the roundtable discussion that serves as a primer for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title clash between Algieri and Pacquiao this Sunday at the Cotai Arena inside The Venetian Macao here.

A kickboxer who once served as Algieri's sparring partner, Lane remains convince that the 30-year old Algieri will pounce on Pacquiao right at the opening bell, dominate him throughout the match, and eventually send the Filipino ring icon into retirement.

In fact, they are already planning an after-party for Algieri in New York as soon as the fight is over.

After all, he believes his student is hungry and has all the tools to emerge victorious in the biggest fight of his entire professional boxing career that will earn him close to $1 million.

"I truly believe the fight will not go the distance," Lane added.

"Manny is going to sleep, go home and quietly retire from professional boxing. No one has ever known and seen Chris Algieri fight like this before. He has moved full circle. And when you move into a full circle, the whole universe will be on your side."

Lane said Algieri's height and reach will play a major role in his possible victory.

Algieri, he added, is also a good boxer who can outbox Pacquiao and can take advantage should the eight-division champion suffer cramps, much like what he did when he pulled off a stunning upset over Russian slugger Ruslan Provodnikov to cop the WBO light welterweight crown last June.

"Chris is the young lion and he will prevail," said Lane, trying his best to convince the media that his student is the better fighter.

"By being a master boxer, Chris will win because he will do what he does best inside the gym. He already did this 40 times and will be doing this again for the 41st time so I have no doubt that he will win it again this time."

The media remained quiet as if trying to verify the veracity of the brash trainer.

"See, that will be the sound of the arena when the fight is over -- everybody will be stunned and quiet. We will be winning this fight and everybody will be quiet over here. We're going back to New York after this and have a nice after-party since he is emerging victorious.
