UST Singers becomes 1st Pinoy choir to perform at Spain’s Basilica de Sagrada Familia


The multi-award winning chorale University of Santo Tomas Singers became the first Filipino choir to perform at the historic Basilica de Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain this August.

The UST Singers performed at the historical basilica designed by world-renowned architect, Antoni Gaudí, as part of the choir's 34th international concert tour.

The choir, founded in 1992, also opened the 64th edition of Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonia in Torrevieja, Spain, a competition the choir took top prizes from in 2010.

St. Blasien Cathedral, one of the largest dome cathedrals in Europe, also hosted a featured performance by the Filipino group as part of the International Music Festival at Black Forest in Baden-Württemburg, Germany.

The UST Singers also performed as guest artists at the 39th Festival Internacional de Cant Coral at the Catalunya Centre in Castellbell, Spain with other choirs from other parts of the world.

The choir has represented the Philippines in the past in 23 international choral competitions, garnering a total of 82 top prizes.

It is the only choir to win the Choir of the World-Luciano Pavarotti Grand Prize in Wales, the United Kingdom twice, the first in 1995 and the second in 2010. — MDM, GMA News
