ONCE IN A LIFETIME LUNAR SHOW

Moon to become ‘Super Blue Blood Moon’ all in one night

Sky gazers are in for a once-in-a lifetime celestial show on January 31, 2018, when the moon becomes the Super Moon, the Blue Moon and the Blood Moon all in one night.

In his program on Super Radyo dzBB "Magtanong Kay Mang Tani," Nathaniel Cruz, GMA Network's resident meteorologist, said that the celestial phenomenon on Wednesday last happened in 1886.

Citing PAGASA-DOST's astronomical calendar, Mang Tani said that a Super Moon occurs when the Moon is at its closest distance to Earth. Meanwhile, a Blue Moon is the second full moon of a given month, which is a rare lunar event.

On the other hand, a Blood Moon usually occurs during a total lunar eclipse, wherein the color of the Moon turns to red or copper color.
