Canceled flights for Monday, January 22, 2018

At least 10 flights to and from the Bicol region on Monday were canceled as Alert Level 4 was raised over Mayon Volcano.

In separate advisories, both the flag carrier Philippine Airlines and budget carrier Cebu Pacific announced the cancellation of flights to the region.

As of 12:40 p.m., January 22, PAL has canceled four flights:

  • PR 2927 - Cebu-Legazpi
  • PR 2928 - Legazpi-Cebu
  • PR 2965 - Clark-Naga
  • PR 2966 - Naga-Clark

The following flights of budget carriers Cebu Pacific and Cebgo were likewise canceled:

  • DG 6204 - Cebu-Legazpi
  • DG 6205 - Legazpi-Cebu
  • 5J 327 - Manila-Legazpi
  • 5J 328 - Legazpi-Manila
  • DG 6117 - Manila-Naga
  • DG 6119 - Naga-Manila

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has already ordered the temporary closure of the Legazpi Airport.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), an Alert Level 4 indicates that a hazardous explosion could happen in a matter of days, or even hours.

The CAAP has since advised pilots flying along the area to exercise extreme caution, as ash from volcanic eruptions may be hazardous to the aircraft. — BM, GMA News
