CALLING THE TITOS AND THE TITAS

'G.R.I.N.D.' is an upcoming teleserye that can help everyone understand millennials

Calling all the titos and the titas! GMA Network has a daring new romcom-drama and it's supposed to help you better understand the mystery that are the...millennials, as well as bridge the gap between them and the older demographic.

"G.R.I.N.D." stands for Get Ready It's a New Day and stars four budding Kapuso stars: Athlete-turned-Kapuso hunk Bruno Gabriel, Benedict Campos, Jazz Ocampo, and Ayra Mariano.

At the media presentation on Tuesday, executive producer Tina Samson-Velasco told GMA News Online that she also hopes for millennials to learn, from the show, where all their parents’ misunderstandings are coming from.

“Hindi ito pang millennial lang ha, meron din tayong magulang na nandito, paano ba mabibridge ‘yung gap?” she said.

“Heto ang G.R.I.N.D para maipaliwanag at maintindihan ng mga millennial kung saan rin ‘yung pinaggagalingan ng mga magulang."

Bruno Gabriel will be playing a 25-year-old ambitious businessman Carlo Yuson, a seemingly no-nonsense guy who shares a deep emotional connection with several characters on the show.

"Poor Señorita” heroine Ayra Mariano is playing the “ulirang ate awardee” character, Lui Gonzales, who reflects the goal-oriented nature of millennials.

Actor Benedict Campos’ character Reynaldo Catacutan, Jr. lives what is possibly the difficult life of a twenty-something on the show.

“Siguro, out of four of us, ‘yung character ko ang pinaka-wala, wala in the sense of economically, money-wise, doon nag-simula ‘yung show when he was looking for a job,” Campos hinted.

Long-time screenwriter Renato Custodio admitted that Campos’ “gay millennial” character was the most difficult to conceptualize, too.

“Ang character niya (Campos), nahirapan kami…gay siya dito, pero hindi defined, na-realize ko don kasi na may ganun’ pala, so nahirapan ako. How do I write something pero hindi ko ma-define? So sabi ko, let’s keep it natural,” Custodio said.

Meanwhile, Kapuso actress and commercial muse Jazz Ocampo will be portraying a thriving artist who doesn't just express herself through her loud fashion sense. Audiences will get to know the real Solanj Martinez as the show pushes deeper and deeper into her past.

“Si Solanj now na mapapanuod niyo, very expressive, very loud in terms of outfits, hairstyle makeup, pero the other side of that, there’s always a reason why,” Jazz said in an interview.

Jazz, in her portrayal as Solanj, hopes for people to look up to her as a role model rather than a trend-setter.

“I wanna be that person na parang maiisip nila na ay, possible pala iyon, kasi nakikita nila na ginawa ko,”

All actors with lead roles on G.R.I.N.D. went through auditions for the GMA teleserye in partnership with Wizpher Mac Production.

The show is set to premiere on August 19 at with a new episode every Saturday at 11 pm. — Margaret Claire Layug/LA, GMA News
