‘Kita Kita’ sets new record at the box office as highest grossing indie film

The votes, in the form of ticket sales, are in and the winner is "Kita Kita."

Speaking for Spring Films, Erickson Raymundo this week announced on Instagram that "Kita Kita" has earned over P300 million, edging out "Heneral Luna" as the highest grossing indie film.

"Honestly our faith goal was to make P60 to P80 million but if our movie will just hit P30 million at the box office, we will still be happy," Raymundo declared.

The ticket sales jumped from P2 million on the first week to P300 million on the third, prompting him to believe in miracles.

He added, "'Kita Kita' is now the highest grossing independently produced movie in the Philippines. Maraming salamat Kabayan! Maraming salamat Panginoon."

The milestone was also marked by a special post on the official Facebook page, thanking the people who marched to theaters to witness the love story between Tonyo and Lea — plus a little side eye for the folks who chose to watch an illegal copy of the film.

"Sa kabila ng pamimirata na aming naranasan, mas pinili pa rin ng nakararami na panoorin kami sa sinehan. Sa mga tunay na Kabayan na walang sawa na sumusuporta at tumutulong sa amin laban sa piracy, maraming salamat!!" the post read.
