More than the ‘intimate bromance’ story: 5 things to know about Mark Bautista’s tell-all book

Earlier this month, people couldn’t stop talking about Mark Bautista’s revelation that he once had an intimate relationship with a man who remains unnamed.

But in an exclusive interview on “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” this Sunday, the returning theater actor clarified a few more things he shared in his book “Beyond the Mark.”

1. He has a #MeToo story.

Mark revealed that a distant cousin sexually assaulted him when he was about 7 years old. “Naging aggressive siya [sa ‘kin], in-expose niya ang sarili niya sa akin, parang pinipilit niya ako to a sexual act,” Mark said. He then advised parents to please keep a close eye on their children and to make sure they know the people they leave their children with at home.

2. It was in Seattle when Mark decided to write his book.

He’s actually written some parts of the book while in London, but when he moved to Washington for the Seattle run of the hits musical "Here Lies Love," everything aligned. “Nung nag-Seattle ako, I decided this is the perfect time na mas maging relaxed ako sa environment ko. Nag-align na lang lahat. Na-attract na ako sa kasama ko sa show, mas naging bukas [ako]. Doon na ako nag-stand up,” Mark shared.

3. He is bisexual.

Mark candidly admitted to Jessica Soho, “I love both sexes! [I’m a] bisexual.” He wants to have children, he wants a family, and “if God will give me the right person na para sa akin, if it’s a woman or a man, I would gladly embrace that.”

4. Anderson Cooper is instrumental in all this.

A year before moving to Seattle, Mark met Anderson Cooper in New York and told him about what he was going through. “Sabi niya na mahirap iyan, especially sa country natin na medyo conservative. It takes time, and hindi madali, kailangan kong maramdaman if it’s the right time and if your heart tells you so. So naging instrumental siya…I set it aside and next year, nung nasa Seattle na ako, nag-decide na ako na mas maging open.”

5. Regine Velasquez served as his inspiration in entering showbiz.

We all know Mark Bautista entered the world of show business through the talent show “Star for a Night.” But do you know why he joined the show in the first place? “Na-engganyo akong sumali ng ‘Star for a Night’ dahil alam kong [si Regine] ‘yung host. So kung hindi siya ‘yung nag-host, hindi ako sasali ng competition,” Mark said. — LA, GMA News
