South Korea knocks out PHL in Asian Games basketball quarters
The Philippines suffered a familiar heartbreak in the quarterfinals of the Asian Games basketball tournament after falling to South Korea, 91-82, on Monday in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The wards of Coach Yeng Guiao suffered a fourth quarter collapse, putting to naught a solid effort in the first three periods to bow out of medal contention.
The Philippines was still ahead, 68-67, when South Korea unleashed an 19-6 run in the fourth quarter to open up an 86-74 advantage.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Jordan Clarkson scored 25 points in the losing effort for the Philippines, who were outmuscled down low down the stretch by a Korean squad led by former PBA import Ricardo Ratliffe, who had 30 points and 15 rebounds.
The defeat is the latest in a long string of heartbreaking defeats to South Korea, the latest of which was last year’s FIBA Asia Cup. —JST, GMA News
