Pacquiao on rematch with Mayweather: There’s a big possibility but no concrete details yet

Senator Manny Pacquiao said Monday there is nothing concrete yet on his rematch against American boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr., but added there is a big possibility that such will happen.

“Wala, magne-negotiate pa. Kapag bumalik siya, then puwede kami maglaban. Pinag-uusapan pa,” Pacquiao, eight division world champion, told reporters when asked for details.

“There is a possibility, malaki. Gusto niyang bumalik e, gusto niyang agawin daw ang belt ko,” he added.

Pacquiao said they will finalize the plan within the week.

“Ma-finalize na this week ‘yung fight, either Mayweather or somebody else, kung saan at kung kailan, anong date,” he said.

“Andyan si Amir Khan, Terence Crawford, Adrien Broner, marami namang posible,” he said.

The senator said his friend Buboy Fernandez will be his trainer.

“Matindi (ang training), wala naman akong worry sa training dahil andyan si Buboy,” he said.

Asked what are the things that need to be discussed, the senator said they have to talk about the timing of the fight and the conditions.

“Pag-usapan ‘yung timing, ‘yung month, at ‘yung ibang kailangan at agreement, kondisyones,” he said.

Unlikely in December?

Pacquiao also expressed doubts the fight will be in December as the Senate will be busy with deliberations on the 2019 proposed national budget.

“Isa rin ‘yun sa consideration natin na titignan na hindi maapektuhan ‘yung trabaho natin. Maraming trabaho ngayon dito at  may break naman ng October hanggang first weekof November. Titignan natin,” he said when asked if the fight will be at the end of the year.

He confirmed the initial talk on the fight happened when he saw Mayweather in Japan and the public was ecstatic when the two of them were seen together.

“Nagkita kami sa Japan sa isang event. Maganda malaking laban ‘yan. ‘Yun lang nagtakbo kami ni Mayweather sa Japan e grabe na ang reaction ng mga fans,” he said.

“Sabi niya ‘easy fight, easy fight.’ Sabi ko ‘let’s get it on and get back to the ring, we will fight. I have the belt’,” he added.
