Donaire bags WBA bantamweight title

Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire was pronounced the new World Boxing Association bantamweight super champion on Sunday after winning over Ryan Burnett.

The Irish boxer suffered a back injury in the third round and told trainer Adam Booth "I cannot move it. I cannot throw a shot there," according to bbc.com.

Donaire checked on Burnett as he was taken from the boxing ring on a stretcher, reports said.

Donaire weighed 117.7 pounds during weigh-in, while Burnett weighed 117.8 pounds.

In a series of messages posted on Twitter, Donaire thanked God and "my Archangels" for the victory, and said he was sending "prayers of healing to Ryan Burnett."

He also thanked Burnett "for sharing the ring with me."
