After much buzz over the holidays about the job security of Philippine national football team head coach Michael Weiss, the Philippine Football Federation announced Monday via press release that they were officially discontinuing the coach’s services effective January 15.

In the statement, the PFF said that they “made a year-end evaluation with team management and determined that a re-organization of the coaching staff is best for the team.”

Since taking over in January 2011, Weiss piloted the Azkals to a 21-12-13 win-draw-loss record.

He led the team to a third-place finish in the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup, as well as back-to-back Philippine Peace Cup titles in 2012 and 2013. Weiss also made sure the Azkals qualified for the 2014 edition of the AFC Challenge Cup.

Under his stewardship, the Azkals also rose to their highest-ever placing in the FIFA rankings, 127.
