Xiong Jing Nan aims to end Angela Lee's undefeated streak in Singapore
China's ONE women's atomweight world champion Xiong Jing Nan is not taking ONE Women's Strawweight World Champion Angela Lee lightly, despite experts branding her as a huge favorite come the main event of ONE:Heart of the Lion on November 9 at Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
Xiong will be defending her crown then.
Lee's decision to move up in weight to challenge for a historic second division title shocked many observers, including ONE Championship big boss Chatri Sityodtong, who openly admitted he's puzzled as to why the Singaporean sensation took the bout.
Xiong, however, won't be carried away with predictions as she currently trains just as hard, if not harder for her upcoming title defense.
"A lot of people say that I am a huge favorite in this upcoming world title showdown but I do not want to look at it that way. Angela Lee is the ONE women's atomweight title holder for a reason. I am working hard daily to make sure that my hands get raised at the end of the night," Xiong quipped.
"We all know that Angela Lee is a well-rounded martial artist, but her grappling is what stands out in her overall game. My team is preparing me for worst case scenarios so I'll be ready for whatever she brings to the table," Xiong added.
Xiong had nothing but praises for Lee throughout the build up for the upcoming bout between the two female world champs. She also commended Singaporean fans for being passionate supporters, but made it clear that she is coming to the "Lion City" to spoil the party.
"Singapore fans are very passionate, they support their own and cheer like there's no tomorrow. The crowd will definitely be on Lee's side when I fly to Singapore to defend my title against Lee," says Xiong.
"I am coming with one mission only and one mission only; successfully defend my title and draw that first loss on Lee's perfect professional record." — LA, GMA News
