MANILA, Philippines - Philip Morris Philippines Manufacturing Inc. is expanding its operations at the Subic Bay Freeport with the construction of a new warehouse to boost the company's export activity to the Asia Pacific region. Philip Morris managing director Chris Nelson said the project, costing P1 billion, will complement the cigarette company's existing tobacco leaf facility in Subic. “We look at Subic from the viewpoint of location, cost-effectiveness, and technical side. The facilities are there in Subic, and there’s also the support we got from the community," Nelson said. The P1-billion facility has a 25-million ton capacity for tobacco, four times that of Philip Morris' existing Subic warehouse. It is expected to be completed 18 months after construction starts next year. Philip Morris in the Philippines exports to cigarettes to Hong Kong, Thailand, Micronesia and French Polynesia; processed tobacco to Cambodia, Korea, and Pakistan; and expanded tobacco products to India, Bangladesh and Malaysia. - GMANews.TV
