35 Koreans rescued off Aklan
MANILA, Philippines - Operatives of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) have rescued 35 Koreans who were stranded on a motorized banca after the vessel drifted off an island in Aklan, officials said on Monday.
PCG headquarters in Manila said that M/Bca Frozen Shadows drifted off Buruanga Island due to strong current and engine failure.
The Coast Guard Station Boracay relayed the report to Manila after the station received a telephone call last Friday from a resort owner alerting authorities about the troubled vessel.
Vice Admiral Wilfredo Tamayo, PCG commandant, said Coast Guard Station Caticlan immediately coordinated with Montenegro Lines in the Jetty Port of Caticlan, Malay, Aklan, for the deployment of fast craft MV Dapitan City.
Investigation showed that the Koreans hired the vessel Friday for a sight-seeing at the Maniguin Island in Antique.
On its way back to Boracay Island, the vessel’s engine overheated and conked out. - GMANews.TV
