Noynoy's ‘girlfriend’ being groomed for Congress

August 12, 2009 11:32pm

The pretty 29-year-old councilor in Valenzuela City who is rumored to be the girlfriend of Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III is being groomed to run for Congress in next year's national elections.

"Nakikita namin na highly qualified siya (She's highly qualified) for the position. She's our number one councilor," said Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian of Shalani Soledad.

A report by Sherry Anne Torres on GMA News' "24 Oras" said Soledad was frequently seen at the wake of Sen. Aquino's mother, former President Corazon "Cory" Aquino, who died last August 1 after more than a year of battling colon cancer.

She also led a healing Mass at the Valenzuela City Hall during the time Mrs. Aquino was confined at the Makati Medical Center.

She was also seen in a dated picture side by side with Mrs. Aquino's only son.

Soledad declined an interview by media when she was seen assisting the victims of Tuesday's fire in a paint factory in the city.

Sen. Aquino, meanwhile, said Soledad has not told him of her alleged plans to seek a congressional seat in the 2010 national elections.

"I think she's opting for re-election. She has not told me she has changed her mind," the senator said. - GMANews.TV
