Asian long jump queen Torres to grace Saturday fun run
Celebrated trackster Maristella Torres will be among the top Filipino athletes that will grace the 1st Pocari Sweat Fun Run on Saturday at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. Torres, who won the long jump gold in the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) Championships in Guangzhou, China last year, will give support to the more than 2,000 runners that are expected to participate in the inaugural racing event. Aside from the AAA Championships gold, which ended the countryâs 22-year gold medal drought, Torres also won the Laos SEA Games gold with a record-jump of 6.68-meters to break the 1989 SEAG record of 6.52 meters set by former Filipina long jump queen Elma Muros-Posadas in Kuala Lumpur. Her golden feats earned her the Philippines Sportswriters Association (PSA) Athlete of the Year award. Aside from Torres, Laos SEAG silver medalist in water polo Dale Evangelista will also grace the event. â GMANews.TV
