Nuyles, Cabrera tow Freego to 72-56 win over Pharex
The Alex Nuyles-Roider Cabrera tandem towed Freego Jeans to a 72-56 win over Pharex in Tuesday's PBA D-League at San Juan Gym. It was Freego's second win to improve to 2-3 in Group A. They will face the top-seeded NLEX Road Warriors in their next game, hoping to get out of the cellar. "We just kept on playing aggressive offense and defense [so we were able to close out the game against Pharex]. I had an injury so I couldn't play that well in our first few games. I just kept waiting for my chance to play like this and it finally came," said Nuyles who tallied 21 points and five rebounds. Prior to this match, Nuyles has been insignificant on offense as he was nursing a shoulder injury. Cabrera added 15 points, three rebounds and two assists. Both teams struggled offensively the entire first half, which ended with Freego holding on to a 28-24 lead at the turn. Nuyles drained three straight three-pointers while Lester Alvarez and Eric Camson made one each as the Jeans pulled away in the third period. The Bidang Generix continued to miss easy baskets and even lost big man Jason Deutchman, who injured his ankle, early in the third. Freego's lead ballooned to 18, 59-41, with six minutes left in the final canto as Pharex failed to keep up with the Jeans' revitalized offense. "We just have to sustain our aggressiveness and momentum. After beating Pacific Pipes, the boys have found their confidence," said Coach Leo Austria before the match. - JVP, GMA News
