New HTC phones to support iTunes
At least two new handsets by Taiwan-based smartphone HTC will run Google's Android operating system but support rival Apple Inc.'s iTunes software. HTC launched the 4.7-inch Sensation XL and Rhyme that particularly support music synchronization via iTunes, Taiwan's Central News Agency reported. "We hope consumers will be able to store their music on HTC phones from any platform," HTC North Asia President Jack Tong said at the product launch. Users of the two phones can download the HTC Sync application to their personal computers, which will automatically detect iTunes or Windows Media Player. The apps can then copy media files such as music, pictures and contacts to their phones. It is the first time HTC has allowed its products to synchronize with software from Apple, since both firms are in a legal battle over alleged patent infringements on smartphones and tablet computers since April 2010. The Sensation XL is HTC's second phone with Beats audio technology after the company invested US$309 million in August to acquire a 51-percent share of U.S. headphone maker Beats Electronics. Earlier this week, Google Chairman Eric Schmidt said he sees both a competitive and cooperative relationship between Google and other major tech players including Apple, Amazon.com and Facebook. â TJD, GMA News
