Militants gather at Mendiola to protest Clinton PHL visit

November 16, 2011 10:28am
Militants gathered at Mendiola Bridge near Malacañang Wednesday to protest the ongoing visit of US State Secretary and former First Lady Hillary Clinton.

The militants chanted anti-US slogans and called for the scrapping of the RP-US Visiting Forces Agreement, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.

No violent confrontation between the militants and police and presidential guards at Mendiola Bridge was initially reported.

On Tuesday, militants tried to march to the US Embassy to protest Clinton's visit but police blocked their path.

Clinton arrived in the Philippines Tuesday afternoon and was to meet with President Benigno Aquino III in the Palace Wednesday.

But before going to Malacañang, she went to the Department of Foreign Affairs, according to a report by dzBB's Denver Trinidad. — LBG, GMA News
