The Philippines was already assured of the gold medal in the 2011 Southeast Asian Games after Rubilen Amit and Iris Ranola arranged an all-Pinay showdown Thursday. Ranola foiled Amit's defense bid of the 9-ball title with a 7-2 win at the Jakabaring Billiards Arena in Palembang, Indonesia. It was a bitter-sweet victory for Ranola, who won the 8-ball gold. She became the first double gold medal winner in the biennial meet but had to do it at the expense of her teammate. Amit, who won the individual gold in Laos two years ago, earned a finals berth after a 7-4 win over Singapore's Hoe Shu Wah. Ranola, meanwhile, outclassed Hyunh Thi Ngoc Huy of Vietnam, 7-3, in the other semifinals match. â JVP, GMA News
