D-League: Tired Freego remains undefeated, keeps Cobra winless
Freego Jeans, with nine players coming straight from another game, fought off fatigue in posting a 61-54 win over Cobra Energy Drink in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup Tuesday at the Adamson University Gym.
Seven Adamson players and two from Jose Rizal University saw action for Freego despite coming from another match in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League at The Arena in San Juan City.
Cobra, on the other hand, missed three of their big men who were also playing for Letran in the PCCL.
Freego remains on top with a 5-0 win-loss record while Cobra, who missed the outside shooting touch of Lord Casajeros and Josan Nimes, dropped its fifth straight match.
Jar-Ar Sumido's back-to-back three-pointers had the Ironmen enjoying an 8-6 edge early in the match.
Roider Cabrera's five-point swing, a jumper and a three-pointer, had the Jeans Makers enjoying a 34-24 spread at the turn.
Cobra closed in at 36-30 after Freego committed consecutive turnovers at the start of the third period.
Eric Camson dropped five straight points to keep the Ironmen, who struggled against the defense of Freego big men Lionel Manyara and Jumbo Escueta, at bay.
Camson led Freego with 14 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
"We were already tied when we arrived for this game," said Camson. "But we want to remain undefeated. We were also pressured since we are playing on our home court and we don't want to lose." — Mav Gonzales/JVP, GMA News
