PNoy puts on hold plan to buy dream car until 2016

December 6, 2011 8:38pm
President Benigno Aquino III is putting his plan to buy his dream car on hold until his term expires in 2016.

“There are models that might be entirely different by that time so rather than hope for something right now, I’ll just look at what’s available roughly about June 30, 1 p.m.,” Aquino said at a Bulong Pulungan forum in Pasay City Tuesday.

Since he cannot afford the vehicle of his dreams, Aquino said he will just take it out of his mind “to lessen the frustrations that I have.”

In January, presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda confirmed that Aquino, a car enthusiast, purchased a third-hand 2007 model Porsche but emphasized that the President bought it with his own money.

A source close to Aquino said the president sold the blue BMW he bought when he was still a senator and used the money from the sale to buy the Porsche for P4.5 million.

Aquino’s purchase of the Porsche earned him criticisms, with critics saying it was not a good example for the chief executive of a country like the Philippines.

In July, Aquino said he decided to sell his Porsche as it was putting the people guarding him at unnecessary risk.

Asked for any material thing he wishes to have this Christmas, the President said: “When it comes to personal things, I’ve learned not to expect too much for myself.”

“But if I can have better tidings for the country that really would be great, a tremendous gift,” he added. — Amita O. Legaspi/KBK/KG, GMA News
