Pinay teen named grand champion in K-Pop world festival
A 19-year-old Filipina was named champion at the recently-concluded K-Pop World Festival 2011 held in South Korea, a report of GMA News' "24 Oras" newscast said. In his report, GMA News showbiz reporter Nelson Canlas said Karla Mae Carreon bested 19 other foreign contestants and bagged five million won, or around P200,000. Carreon, who has stopped studying, said she is setting aside part of her cash prize to go back to school and earn a degree. “Naka-allot na nga po ‘yung kalahati du’n. Balak ko pong itabi para sa June, sa pasukan,” she said in an interview aired on “24 Oras” on Friday. She added that she is making use of her musical talent to achieve her dream of becoming a journalist. “Gusto ko pong maging journalist… mahilig din po akong magsulat..
