Dell may reenter Tablet market in 2012
After killing off its Streak tablet last year, Dell Computer seems to be planning to rejoin the tablet wars —albeit cautiously— in late 2012.
Tech site CNET cited a Reuters report quoting Dell's chief financial officer Steve Felice as hinting the company will reenter the fray in a bigger way.
"You will see us enter this market in a bigger way toward the end of the year. So we are not really deemphasizing it, we are really being very careful how we enter it," Felice said.
CNET quoted Felice as hinting Dell would "like" Microsoft's Windows 8 but continues to "develop" with Google's Android as well.
He noted that while people are more focused on the hardware when talking about PCs, they are interested in the overall environment when talking about a tablet or a smartphone.
"As we have matured in this, we are spending a lot more time in the overall ecosystem," he said.
Last year, Dell entered the tablet market with its enterprise-focused and Android-powered Streak tablet.
The Streak had mixed reviews and was axed, however. — TJD, GMA News
