PNoy's Facebook page locks down on public comments, cites 'spam'
Citing "continuous spamming," administrators on Friday temporarily disallowed Facebook users from posting comments on President Benigno Aquino III's official Facebook page.
As of the afternoon of January 13, Facebook users can still comment on posts made by the administrator, but can no longer post messages directly on Aquino's Facebook Wall.
"We are temporarily deactivating wall post on P-Noy’s Page. This is due to continuous spamming. We assure you that we will look into it and will allow followers to post as soon as possible. Let us be reminded to be very careful on clicking links on Facebook. Thank you," the administrator said.
Anti-Aquino 'spam'?
The administrator did not elaborate on the "spamming" but comments on the post indicated that the "spam" was from anti-Aquino Facebook account owners.
One commenter, Legaspi Joyce Tonido, challenged Aquino's critics to take on Aquino's work and accused them of being lackeys of Aquino's predecessor Gloria Arroyo.
She particularly took issue with the comment made by one Rolly Mendoza, who claimed the Aquinos were only pretending to be clean but were the cause of the nation's problems.
People's grievances
But another commenter, Gemma Kim, reminded the administrator that "admins should screen spam and flooding posts, good posters tried to reach the govt on the grievances and true status of the people."
Friday's incident came a day after Aquino received criticism from his predecessor Gloria Arroyo for his alleged "politics of division" that she said is behind the country's present economic slump.
In a paper entitled “It’s the economy, student!" Arroyo scored Aquino’s supposed “obsessive pursuit of political warfare" that she said has slowed down the country’s economy.
Aquino's spokesman Edwin Lacierda dismissed Arroyo's criticism as mere "sourgraping" and insisted Arroyo could not hold a candle to Aquino in terms of "credibility." — TJD, GMA News
