NCAA tennis: Knights, Squires continue unbeaten streak into semis

Letran's men's and juniors' squads, after sweeping the elimination round, opened their respective Final Four campaigns with a bang as they blanked separate rivals at the start of the 87th NCAA tennis tournament round-robin semifinals Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
 
The Dave Regencia-led Knights scored a 3-0 shutout win over College of Saint Benilde for Letran's ninth straight victory dating back to the elimination round.
 
Regencia beat Rolee Joven in the first singles, 6-2, 6-1, before teaming up with Ryan Sarenas in the doubles event to crush Romeo Dimakiling and Larry Antigua 6-0, 6-3, for a 2-0 headstart.
 
Jeremiah Macias did not even break a sweat as he completed the Knights' sweep after winning by defult against Antigua in the second singles match.
 
The Knights need to win their last two remaining games against the San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags and the San Beda College Red Lions to formally clinch the title.
 
In the juniors division, the Letran Squires also blanked the San Beda College Red Cubs for their first win in the semis, as they too are on a nine-game win streak.
 
In other results, the University of Perpetual Help Altas defeated the Mapua Cardinals, 3-0, the San Sebastian College Stags trounced the Arellano University Chiefs, 3-0, and the San Beda College Red Lions defeated the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals in the seniors division.
 
Meanwhile, the San Sebastian Staglets clobbered the EAC Brigadiers, 3-0, the Arellano Braves pummeled the Perpetual Help Junior Altas, 3-0, and the Malayan High School Red Robins tripped the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers, 3-0, in the juniors competition. — AMD/JVP, GMA News
