More OFWs expected to arrive from Syria Monday
More overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) repatriated from Syria are expected to arrive in the Philippines on Monday afternoon. The OFWs will arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport aboard an Emirates flight, according to a report of radio dzBB. Philippine officials in Syria said the OFWs left Damascus over the weekend, the report added. Earlier this year, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario deployed to Syria a Rapid Response Team composed of DFA, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel to help repatriate OFWs in conflict areas, especially in Homs. In December last year, amid escalating tension in Syria the DFA raised the crisis alert level there to "4," which entails the mandatory repatriation of Filipinos at the Philippine government’s expense. - VVP, GMA News
