February 20, 2012 5:30pm
Manila and Bangkok renewed this month their ties as sister cities during the Bangkok Sister Cities Week 2012 from February 9 to 12, a report of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

The four-day event, open to the public, was held at the Benjasiri Park with the theme "Urban Rehabilitation & Renew," the DFA said.

The Sister Cities Week is an annual event organized by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to promote cooperation and exchange of views on urban rehabilitation.

"This year's event was participated in by Bangkok's 18 sister cities, including Manila, Embassies in Thailand and guest cities, which supported Bangkok during the flooding crisis last year, and the (BMA)," the DFA said.

Manila and Bangkok became sister cities on June 24, 1997, when the Philippines and Thailand celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
