NBA: Hawk Joe Johnson out of All-Star Week; Rondo, Durant named as replacements
The NBA announced Wednesday (Thursday, PHL time) that Atlanta Hawk guard Joe Johnson will be unable to participate in NBA All-Star Weekend, ruling him out of the All-Star game as well as the 3-Point contest.
Johnson was held out of Wednesday's (Thursday, PHL time) game against the New York Knicks due to knee tendinitis and will be re-evaluated by physicians after the All-Star break.
NBA Commissioner David Stern also announced that Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo will take the place of Johnson in the All-Star game, while Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant will fill in for Johnson in the 3-point contest.
Rondo is averaging 14.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 9.6 assists and 1.6 steals in 22 games with Boston, but is currently serving a two-game suspension for throwing a ball at a game official.
