February 24, 2012 3:11pm
Asia Pacific Citi Bank bagged three ‘Bank of the Year’ awards from three industry magazines — IFR Asia, Finance Asia and The Asset — citing its financial strength, the bank said in an emailed statement.

"These awards are a tribute to the talent of the Citi team and its relentless focus on client excellence across the entire region. This is a great way to start the year that marks our 200th Anniversary," said Stephen Bird, Citi Asia’s chief operating officer.

The banking magazines noted Citi was ‘stronger than ever’ showcasing all time high in deposits and assets.

“Citigroup's Asian platform is… one that is stronger than ever. The market share it gained over the last 12 months showed that it is once again a force to be reckoned with in Asian banking,” the statement read, quoting IFR Asia.

“[Citi’s] highlights included the bank leading 15 initial public offerings in China, the busiest 12-month period in its history, boasting total deposits and assets under management that top all-time highs of $240 billion and $190 billion, respectively,” according to Finance Asia.

The Asset said, “Citi is a thought leader and continues to win the nod of the world’s most important companies.”

Citi’s posted a 5-percent revenue increase to $15.2 billion in 2011. It also opened over 100 branches in the region last year. — RRD/VS, GMA News
