Filipino officials in Norway feted an 85-year-old Norwegian for building a haven for children in Cavite province in the Philippines. Ambassador to Norway Bayani Mercado handed a certificate of appreciation to Rachel Trovi, who founded the Ma'Ma Children's Center of Norway/Hope's Haven for Children. Trovi, who turned 85 on February 22, was cited for 22 years of humanitarian work in Cavite province. "Ms. Trovi is the founder and driving force behind Ma'Ma Children's Center of Norway/Hope's Haven for Children, which now runs three orphanages, six pre-schools, a center for battered and sexually abused women, and home for the elderly in Cavite," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a news release on Friday. Trovi's foundation recently built a 100-room hospital for the poor in General Trias in Cavite. The hospital is expected to be operational by November. Trovi and the foundation received the 2006 Presidential Award for Outstanding Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas. She was cited for her untiring service to the Filipino people and for promoting the common good. - VVP, GMA News
