Gloria Arroyo's doctor testifies in Corona trial
The main attending physician of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo took the witness stand in the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona in the Senate on Monday. Presented by private prosecutor Arthur Lim, Dr. Juliet Gopez-Cervantes of St. Luke’s Medical Center testified for Article VII of the impeachment complaint, which accuses Corona of betraying public trust through his alleged partiality in granting a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the implementation of the watch list order against Mrs. Arroyo last November. Mrs. Arroyo was subject of a watch list order due to the electoral sabotage charges filed against her in connection with the alleged irregularities in the 2007 midterm elections. She sought redress from the Supreme Court, saying she had to go abroad for treatment for her bone mineral disorder. Immigration officials, however, barred her from living the country despite the TRO. Lim noted that Cervantes is just an “ordinary witness” who will tackle Mrs. Arroyo’s medical certificate on October 1, 2011. She was discharged as witness after more or less 10 minutes of questioning. - Rouchelle Dinglasan/KBK, GMA News
