Google hints at Android 'Jelly Bean'
Search giant Google has given hints of the next flavor of its Android operating system for smartphones and mobile devices —with a bowl of jelly beans at the Mobile World Congress in Spain.
A report on PC Magazine said Google's booth at the congress contained a bowl of candy, surrounded by green Android mascots.
"Jelly bean" had been the rumored codename of Google's next version of Android. The current version is "Ice Cream Sandwich."
PC Magazine said Google declined to comment on the meaning of the candy bowl, and declined to confirm the name of the next version of the Android OS.
But it noted Google tends to name its Android operating system versions after sweets, in alphabetical order:
- Cupcake (1.6)
- Donut (2.0)
- Éclair (2.1)
- Froyo (2.2)
- Gingerbread (2.3)
- Honeycomb (3.0)
- Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0)
PC Magazine also said there is still no word on when "Jelly Bean" will debut or what features it will contain.
"Most phones still run Gingerbread, with Ice Cream Sandwich updates for many devices scheduled for various times this year," it said. — TJD, GMA News
