Golf: Rosales places 16th at inaugural World Ladies Championship
Filipina pro Jennifer Rosales scored an even par 72 in the closing round to settle for a top 20 finish in the inaugural $600,000 World Ladies Championship held in Haikou, China. Rosales, playing in her second tournament outside the LPGA Tour, held a 215 total, which included her 70 and 73 in the first two rounds of the event won by China's Shan Shan-Feng. Feng fired a 71 for 206 to defeat Thai Pornanong Phatlum by one for the individual crown. Phatlum had a 70 for 207. The 34-year-old Rosales made a pair of birdies on the fifth and tenth holes, only to drop two strokes on the 13th and 17th for her final score. She was joined by Virginie Lagoutte-Clement (72) and Gwladys Nocera (72) of France, Carin Koch (72) of Sweden, and Line Vedel (74) of Scotland at 16th place. Dottie Ardina, who missed the cut in the individual amateur competition with a 73-80, had a birdie on the 17th and salvaged a 74 for the Philippines’ 146 aggregate in team play. They wound up with a 442 total, including a 143 and 153, for joint 12th with the United States (151) in a field of 20. China ran away with the team crown with a 415 after a 145.
