Annual headline inflation rate in the Philippines settled lower at 2.7 percent in February from 4.0 percent in January, mainly due to slower advances in prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, the National Statistics Office said Tuesday. NSO data showed this was the lowest inflation rate since October 2009, or a 28-month low. Slower yearly increases in all other commodity groups — except in the health, recreation and culture indices — were also noted last month, NSO said in its Summary Inflation Report for February and January 2012. “Compared to February 2011, inflation declined by two percentage points,” according to NSO, saying, “This is the lowest rate since October 2009.” — VS, GMA News
