As more nurses are expected to be deployed to Belgium, Filipino nurses there have established an association to promote their welfare.   In a news release of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the first Filipino Nurses Association in Belgium (FILNABEL) had its induction of officers at the Philippine Embassy's Hall of Presidents in Brussels on February 26.   Those who were inducted included:

  • Ulysses Luyahan (president);
  • Christopher Jayson Perez (vice-president)
  • Ma. Cristina Escuadro (secretary)
  • Reymer Grace Malimban (treasurer), and
  • Sonjay Caneta (auditor).
  Twenty-one nurses deployed from the Philippines, including Filipino nurses who studied and were hired in Belgium, attended the event.   Filipino scholars in Public Health Administration under the Erasmus Exchange Programme and Advisers from Samahan and the Filipino Chaplaincy also joined the meeting. Philippine Ambassador to Belgium Victoria Bataclan congratulated the founding officers and members of FILNABEL for taking the first bold steps in forming the nurses association.   "She was more than happy that all of the nurses have expressed positive views on envisioned projects and activities," the DFA said. - VVP, GMA News
