PHL Embassy in UK lauds Pinoy nurses' excellence
The Philippine Embassy in the United Kingdom praised Filipino nurses in Norwich for helping form better relations between the Philippines and UK by doing their jobs well. According to a news release of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday, Ambassador to the UK Enrique Manalo said they were very proud of the work the nurses were doing. “They are the driving force of the hospital, which clearly demonstrates the excellence of the overseas Filipino worker," he said at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) last March 9, when he met with around 120 Filipinos who work there, mostly as ward and operating theater nurses. “It is also important to remember that the workplace is one avenue where better understanding between the Filipino and British peoples can be fostered,” he added. Manalo also met with NNUH Chairman David Prior, who praised the Filipinos for their "skills, competence, work ethic and compassion" that have helped ensure the top-notch performance of the hospital. "Many of our Filipino nurses already hold very senior positions. They are the preferred staff in the hospital, especially for surgical theatre operations. Frankly, it would be very difficult to operate the hospital were it not for them," said Prior. "NNUH has been an active recruiter of Filipino nurses since 2001, a program that they hoped to continue for the foreseeable future," the DFA noted. Manalo remarked how it was "encouraging to hear that the Filipinos in Norwich made positive contributions to the success of their employers and the welfare of their host community, while also remaining committed to helping their families and friends back in the Philippines." — RJMD/VVP, GMA News
