With Holy Week just around the corner, Metro Manila police have started preparations for the yearly exodus of Filipinos to the provinces.

The Metro Manila police ordered its units to secure vital installations and major thoroughfares during Holy Week, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported.

Metro Manila police spokesman Senior Superintendent Dionardo Carlos was quoted in the report as saying they will focus on bus terminals and entry and exit points to and from Metro Manila especially during Holy Week itself.

Carlos also said they will keep watch over banks during the break.

Police assistance desks will be placed at transport terminals, seaports, and airports.

He advised the public to use hotlines including the police's "117" hotline, as well as mobile numbers 0999-9018181 and 0915-8888181.

Meanwhile, Carlos said they will coordinate with the Philippine National Police's Aviation Security Group to secure passengers heading for the provinces.

Similar arrangements are being made with maritime authorities to secure Filipino vacationers going to the province by sea.

But Carlos also said they will keep watch over other vital installations and government buildings.

He said they will also tap force multipliers like village watchmen to keep Metro Manila safe and secure during the Holy Week break. –KG, GMA News
