Jobless man in Malaysia kills five-year-old Pinay
A 24-year-old unemployed man was charged on Monday for killing a five-year-old Filipino girl at an oil palm plantation in Masai on March 1. The news site The Star reported that Muidin Mydin was charged in a magistrate’s court in Johor Baru under section 302 of the Malaysian Penal Code. He faces the death sentence upon conviction under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The report said Mydin nodded his head when he was charged for the murder of Nurul Nadirah, whose father is a Filipino. Fondly known as Dirang, the victim was first reported missing after she failed to return home after going to a grocery shop in Pasir Gudang, according to a report on the news site Malaysian Insider. Her charred remains were found in the oil palm estate on March 8, a week after she went missing. The police matched the victim's DNA with Roselyn Alan, 25, her mother, who had married the Filipino in 2005 but divorced him three years later, the blog site MyNewsHub.my reported. The murder has been a top story in the Malaysian press. An earlier Malaysian Insider report said the Filipino father was among those initially detained over the kidnap and murder of the victim but was cleared. The report quoted Bernama Online as saying the father — who was not named in the report — will be deported for entering Malaysia illegally. Authorities are still looking into the motive behind the murder. — VVP, GMA News
