Ten million downloads in less than three days: such was the out-of-this-world reception for the latest installment of Rovio Entertainment's popular avian-hurling video game.
Rovio disclosed this in a post on its Twitter account, even as it thanked its fans for downloading Angry Birds Space.
“10 million Angry Birds Space downloads in less than 3 days! Thanks to our fans, stay tuned for more! #angrybirdsspace,” it said.
The game launched only last March 22, with versions for Apple’s iOS and Mac, Google’s Android, and the PC platforms.
Rovio CEO Mikael Hed was quoted as saying the company is planning to port it to the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 platform as well.
“Angry Birds Space” has a new physics engine, taking into account the gravitational pull of the planets instead of just physics.
On the other hand, a separate article on tech site The Next Web noted Rovio added a new power-up called “Space Eagles,” which is awarded for progress in the game or can be available as an in-app purchase.
“Roughly speaking, the company may have sold as many as 28 copies per second over the past three days — astonishing,” The Next Web added. — TJD, GMA News
