The country’s flag carrier, Philippine Airlines (PAL), announced Monday that it will reroute 12 flights from April 12 to 16 in view of North Korea’s plan to launch a rocket that may pass over Philippine territory.

In an advisory posted on its website, PAL said it will adjust the routes of the following flights due to the rocket launch:

  • PR105 Guam to Manila,
  • PR105 San Francisco to Manila,
  • PR103 Guam to Manila,
  • PR103 Los Angeles to Manila,
  • PR107 Vancouver to Manila,
  • PR431 Narita to Manila,
  • PR407 KIX (Japan) to Manila,
  • PR437 Nagoya to Manila,
  • PR467 Incheon to Manila,
  • PR434 Cebu to Narita,
  • PR111 Guam to Manila, and
  • PR426 Manila to Fukuoka.

“Safety remains the cornerstone of PAL operations at all times, as it assures passengers that alternative flight paths will be followed within the said period,” the airline’s management said in the advisory.

Other airlines, such as budget carrier Cebu Pacific Air, has yet to announce any rerouting plans for the week.

Last week, the Philippine government announced that a no-fly zone will be in effect from 190 nautical miles northeast of Cagayan province southward down to 140 nautical miles east of Polilio Island—where debris from the North Korean rocket may land. North Korea is scheduled to conduct a long-range ballistic missile test between April 12 and 16 from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. (Manila time) despite protests from various countries including the Philippines. North Korea has insisted that it only plans to put a "weather satellite" into orbit to mark the 100th birth anniversary of regime founder Kim Il-Sung, who died in 1994. South Korea and the United States, however, claim that it is a test of a ballistic missile. — Andreo Calonzo/RSJ, GMA News
