Pinoy films showcased in intl fest in Switzerland
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Philippine films were recently featured at an international film festival in Fribourg, Switzerland. In a news release, the DFA said the film “Fable of a Fish” by Adolfo Borinaga Alix Jr. was one of the 12 entries in the 26th Festival International de Films de Fribourg from March 24 to 31. The DFA said the film competed for the grand prize — the Regard d'Or Award — but lost to "Never Too Late" by Ido Fluk of Israel. "While the Philippine entry did not win any award, the film caught the interest of the Swiss public as manifested in the full-seating capacity of the cinema," the DFA said. Another Philippine film was featured in the festival - "Cuchera" by Joseph Israel Laban. "Cuchera" was one of the seven featured films at the Festival's special midnight screenings, which also included films from Cambodia, France, Iran, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, the United States, and Indonesia. The Festival International de Films de Fribourg, which began in 1986, is a venue for independent films from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. The grand prize — the Regard d'Or Award — consists of CHF30,000 (P67,962) including CHF20,000 from the State (P45,308) and CHF10,000 (P22,654) from the Municipality of Fribourg. The prize goes to the director and the producer of the winning film. - VVP, GMA News
