The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) opened Tuesday a photo exhibit to pay tribute to Filipino war veterans on the occasion of the 70th Araw ng Kagitingan (National Heroes Day).

Titled “Monuments to an Exalted Past,” the exhibit features 20 monuments—both statues and shrines—in the country.

"It is a celebration of the country's revolutionary past and the heroism of the Filipino people. The photo exhibit offers information about the featured monuments and their significance to the Philippines' struggle for independence," the DFA said of the exhibit at the lobby of its head office in Pasay City.

The exhibit will run until April 18, it added.

According to the DFA, the exhibit is a collective effort of its Foreign Service Officers Corps Batch 17 as "a humble contribution to the process of collective remembering on the occasion of the National Heroes Day."

The nation marked Araw ng Kagitingan on Monday, where President Benigno Aquino III promised more benefits for the country's veterans and their beneficiaries, such as medical assistance in almost 600 more hospitals across the country and timely delivery of veterans’ pensions. –KG, GMA News
