Internet giant Google on Tuesday paid tribute to the working class with a doodle depicting a laborer in overalls lifting a Google sign.

The Labor Day-themed doodle replaced the usual Google logo that greeted visitors to the search giant’s minimalist home page at www.google.com.
Visitors to Google’s Philippine site who hovered their pointers over the doodle would get the message, “Araw ng Mga Manggagawa (Day of the Laborers).”
As in the past, clicking on the logo will bring the visitor to a page showing search results for Labor Day.
In the Philippines, Labor Day is considered a holiday where some labor groups take to the streets to demand better working conditions.
Several groups have scheduled marches and rallies to also denounce what they claim is the government’s subservience to capitalists.
On the other hand, the government is holding job fairs for jobseekers, even as President Benigno Aquino III was to meet with labor groups.
The occasion, also known as May Day, has also been an important official holiday in countries such as the People’s Republic of China, Cuba and the former Soviet Union. –KG, GMA News
